Our Dog Park Needs GRASS!

Springtime is well on it's way, and the main complaint we hear from dog park users is about the "stickers" that get stuck in dog paws. We will need a volunteer effort to be able to get the dog park seeded with grass as quickly and efficiently as possible. We have coordinated a volunteer willing to donate labor with their small tractor and tiller, but we need to raise money for gasoline, grass seed, and lime. We estimate the cost to be about $150-$200. If each of our 134 members on Facebook donates just $1.50, we will be able to purchase the materials needed to get this job done! You can help the effort by donating with Paypal at the bottom of the screen, or by dropping a donation off at Cafe Caffeine in Cambridge. Thanks for your support - let's make our dog park the best it can be!

  1. FYI If you have sand burrs you are gonna need to do more than seed. And tilling will only stir them up, not eliminate them.

  2. A low (no) checmical way to get rid of sand burrs is to take old towels and drag them along the ground all over the whole space to pick up the burrs. I've had really good luck with just removing the burrs by hand - very few have come back.

Also - have you checked with Lowe's, Menards, Sun Opta for donations? I know that Lowe's and Sun Opta were happy to make donations to the community garden - maybe they would like to help out the dog park, too!

  3. Training - It would be helpful if you could give more details on sand burr elimination.

Marisa - Thanks for the idea, but we have contacted both Lowes and Menards in the past for donations and did not receive any reply.
